Una iniciativa cultural que trasciende fronteras. Un recorrido visual por los municipios sudafricanos a través del color y la memoria.
Cordoba, 21 March - Casa Árabe in Cordoba becomes the setting for a new artistic proposal with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition ‘Red Roots’ by the prestigious South African artist Stephanus Meyer.
The exhibition will open to the public on 27 March at 7:00 p.m., and can be visited until 30 March at the Casa Árabe headquarters, located at Calle Samuel de los Santos y Gener, 9. This event forms part of the 19th Cordoba Photography Biennial, with the collaboration of Cordoba City Council, through the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage, the Cordoban Photographic Association and Casa Árabe.
Un viaje a través de la imagen y el simbolismo
‘Red Roots is an exhibition that offers an intimate and symbolic portrait of life in the South African townships. Through the use of the colour red as a narrative element and the constant presence of the tree as a symbol of rootedness and resistance, Meyer constructs a visual narrative in which individual and collective stories intertwine.
Each image is a window into the reality of these communities, reflecting not only the difficulties they face, but also their spirit of struggle and hope.
Stephanus Meyer has developed his career in documentary photography exploring themes of identity, memory and resilience. His work has been internationally recognised for its ability to capture the essence of everyday life in contexts of social transformation. In ‘Red Roots’, the artist invites the viewer to enter a world of emotions and reflections, using photography as a bridge between apparently distant realities.
Una iniciativa cultural que trasciende fronteras
The exhibition forms part of the programme of the 19th Cordoba Photography Biennial, a benchmark event in the artistic field which seeks to bring innovative visual proposals committed to social reality to the public. The collaboration between Casa Árabe and other cultural institutions reinforces the commitment to artistic exchange and the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and in the afternoon from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in a visual journey full of meaning.
With ‘Red Roots’, Casa Árabe not only opens its doors to an aesthetic proposal of great impact, but also promotes a reflection on the importance of memory, identity and human connection through art.
This exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the work of Stephanus Meyer and to get to know, from a sensitive and artistic perspective, the reality of the South African townships.
